Very few got into this five-furlong handicap, which fell to TRINCULO, who was never far off the lead and who battled home well after striking the front to hold off the persistent runner-up. Scuppered by a wide draw at Chester last time, he is clearly in good heart.
Orientor, bidding to provide his trainer with histhird consecutive win in this race, after landing the previous two renewals with River Falcon, was done no favours by being drawn on the flank, especially as he's a horse who needs everything to go his way. He picked up well in the closing stages and wasstaying on all the way to the line, but the post was always coming a fraction too soon for him.
Enchantment, who raced in the front rank throughout, boxed on well enough to run her best race so far this year.
King's Gait, although proven on soft ground, was never able to reel in the leaders.
Zowington, although a winner at Epsom last time, found himself outpaced here on this much softer ground before keepingon steadily.
Swinbrook, stepping back from six furlongs, was always struggling to go the pace.
Cape Royal bounced out smartly and showed plenty of pace, racing slightly on his own, before weakening soon after pressure was applied.
Desert Commander, hiked up 11lb for his comeback win at Thirsk a month ago, failed to run his race here.
Just James was always trailing and also hung to his left, while Desperate Dan was heavily eased when his chance had gone, suggesting all may not have been well with him.[T.O'R]
