BLUE SPINNAKER had got himself well treated, 14lb lower in the weights than he was last spring, and certainly raced as though he had plenty to spare over the handicapper, always travelling well, making his ground very smoothly and getting the better of another well-weighted rival close home. He is clearly back to his very best form and, although he will be hit hard by the handicapper for this effort, he must be taken very seriously in upcoming engagements.
Look Again's backers were unlucky for the second time in four days. Trouble in running prevented his winning at Newmarket last weekend, this time he suffered the misfortune of coming upagainst a rival as well handicapped as he and just lost out, although he did not help his cause by racing keenly on the outside in the early stages and after moving very easily into the lead around 2f out - plenty soon enough as it turned out, though hisrider can hardly be blamed for not expecting to meet an equally well-handicapped rival - he was outpointed by the winner close home. The way he came fully 13 lengths clear of the rest underlines how well treated he was - that is unlikely to remain the case after he is reassessed but he would be able to run off his old mark in the early closing Vodafone Rose Bowl at Epsom next month and looks just the sort to go well in that contest if he makes the cut.
Wingman deserves plenty of credit as he did best of those who chased the strong pace, coming wide of the field on the far side in the straight and leading briefly over 2f out, but he was unable to go with the principals in the latter stages. He had been running over further but this effort suggested he remains effective at this shorter trip.
Miss Provvidence could keep on at only one pace for a respectable fifth, her performance lacking the strong finishing effort which has tended to characterise her races.
Go Tech kept on in the final 3f for sixth - he may want further on a track like this nowadays, and has also tended to do better in smaller fields.
Tiger Tiger is plenty high enough in the handicap but Red Racketeer could not confirm the promise he had appeared to show at Epsom on his previous start, though he had the run of the race in a small field that day.
Consular has yet to prove himself on this sort of ground.[DC]
