It is never easy to gauge the merit of a field of lightly raced two-year-olds, particularly as none had raced in conditions this testing, but only the favourite had proven herself capable of useful form and the indications are that this was probably not an outstanding contest by Listed standards. That said, GILDED has proved a rare bargain for just 13,000gns and defied a 3lb penalty to land a fourth successive win, switched left and then veering markedly in that direction over a furlong and a half out, leading inside the final furlong and holding on. She is at least as effective on better ground but things will not get any easier for her now she has a Listed winner's penalty.
Amber Valley was racing on very different ground to that on which she won a Haydock maiden three weeks previously and she was ridden two furlongs out but kept on encouragingly forsecond place. She is going the right way and will stay six furlongs, remarks which also apply to Cassiara, who kept on well for third and ought to be up to winning in lesser company.
The first four came clear of Down The Well, who could not confirm the promise she had shown in winning on top-of-the-ground at Nottingham seven days earlier and may be worth another chance back on a sound surface. Feelin Foxy hadsomething to find but is another who may have been unsuited by the ground, while Camissa showed speed for a fair way but paid for it in the latter stages. [DC]
