A no-nonsense success for LEVERA, who was quickly at the head of affairs and, with Jamie Spencer allowed to dictate the pace to a nicety, was never in any danger of defeat. Swinging along on the bridle for the first three furlongs, and brought to thestands' rail in the straight, he was gradually wound-up from that point and only needed to be driven out to win easily, being eased before the line. He is a fast-improving horse, who surely has not finished winning yet. His next target is the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Antica, who was held-up, was slightly hampered early in the straight, appeared to go through a flat spot as the tempo increased and was also a little short of room. Switched outside, she stayed on well late in the day to come outa cosy second-best, but she never held out a prayer of reaching the easy winner.

Guest Connections, a stablemate of Upper Hand, was dropped in trip after running a little freely over a mile last time. He had every chance, but proved limited under pressure in the final quarter-mile.

South Cape, yet another Mick Channon runner, ran a respectable race, but was found wanting when the chips were down.

Critic, dropped-in, found little when brought under pressure and the writing was on the wall for him some way out; he may prefer a sounder surface.[T.O'R]
