Lets Roll may not quite get 2m and he certainly seemed to improve for this return to 1m4f, just caught close home - this was a decent effort considering his wide draw forced him to race on what may have been the most unfavourable part of the track.
Tcherina came from behind when winning here last autumn but ran from the front this time and under a canny ride she got most of her rivals on the stretch some way out, holding off all bar two. She looks well up to winning again in handicap company.
Though he drifted left in the latter stages Akritas showed he retains ability, having been below his best in two runs on the all-weather on his return from a long layoff - he stays 2m and is likely to benefit from stepping back up in trip.
Cruise Director has been hurdling and could not match the pace he showed in winning this last year, though he was 6lb higher in the weights this time and not obviously well-in.
Of the rest Group Captain made an encouraging return from six months off, making an effort over 2f out, one-paced and not knocked about thereafter. He progressed into a fairly useful handicapper last season and could well come on again this term. Hat-trick-seeking Top Seed could not defy a 6lb rise for his latest win but Self Respect is worth another chance, having been the worst sufferer in an early coming-together and dropped back to rear. He was another to progress well in 2005 and he is certainly betterthan he was able to show here.[DC]
