Five previous winners among the seven runners for this novice event, which was won in workmanlike style by CHIEF EDITOR, who made all the running and ran on nicely, despite showing a tendency to hang away from the rail to his left. A grand-looking individual, with plenty of size and scope, he does not look the most fluent of movers and, although conditions here were fine for him, he may not stand too much racing on a firm surface. That said, he is plainly a horse with a good engine. His next assignment is the Marble Hill Stakes at The Curragh in ten days time.

Avertuoso ran a sound race in second and looks to be going the right way, but purely on a form basis, he has finished only just ahead of Mr Klick, who had won a claimer last time, and who is a former stable-companion of the winner. He would have finished even closer if he had not hung to his left most of the way.

Dubai's Touch, a scopey newcomer, the only debutante in the field, was comfortably held, but should have derived plenty of benefit from the experience. Six furlongs will probably suit him better. Alternatative was disappointing after his Bath success, which had worked out well.[T.O'R]
