So ZERO TOLERANCE got a masterly ride in the conditions, soon in front and always doing just enough to hold on. That said, this effort was no flash in the pan as he had run a blinder when making the running in the Lincoln in the spring and is clearly a very useful performer on soft ground. He reportedly did not handle the journey when disappointing in France after that but looks just the sort to land a minor Listed or Group 3 event when there is plenty of give underfoot.
Babodana has already proven himself in Pattern company, finishing second in last month's Group 2 Sandown Mile, and ran a fine race conceding 6lb to Zero Tolerance as the winner slightly got first run on him and he was keeping on well at the finish - he is not easy to win with but is as good as ever and certainly has the ability to add to his one Listed success.
Dabbers Ridge was the one runner in the field who looked to be well ahead of the handicapper after his most emphatic victory over 7f at Chester six days earlier, but he could not quite confirm the favourable impression he made that afternoon, challenging over 1f out but one pace in the closing stages - he may not have stayed this longer trip but this would not be the first time that Chester form has not worked out.
The first four came clear of Cool Panic, who was not disgraced given that he raced keenly and may not have seen out the trip on this step up to 1m - he may well benefit from reverting to 1m.
Kings Point had finished just behind Babodana at Sandown but may not have been suited by this much softer ground.
Stronghold ran well for a long way but he had also disappointed in similarly testing conditions on his final outing of last season and clearly needs a sounder surface - he had progressed well prior to this and is probably worth another chance when the weather dries out.[DC]
