As the betting illustrated, there was very little strength in depth in this seven-furlong maiden. RED EVIE was unable to go the early pace on her sole start last year, and although underfoot conditions were quick here, the time reflected how steady they went early on, a factor that probably helped her.
There had been plenty of support for River Kirov in the morning. He was settled just off the pace and after coming under pressure two out, was unableto hold his own with the winner. He did, however, finish well clear of the remainder so looks more than capable of winning one of these contests soon.
