This first division of the three-mile maiden hurdle looked uncompetitive on paper. RETURN TICKET set the standard and scored in workmanlike style. He was stepping up markedly in trip and, in the context of the race, saw it out well enough although he did not stretch as far clear of the runner-up as looked likely. He is probably up to defying a penalty in the same grade.
Wyle Post is nothing out of the ordinary, but finished well clear of the others, who showed little.
