All sorts in this maiden with a few of them needing the outing for a handicap mark and others looking pretty exposed.

All bar two wanted to race stands' side, but they converged two out and the action all seemed to be down the centre until STARLIGHTGAZER veered to the far side and won nicely enough in the end. Having only his third outing, he would have won with a bit more in hand had he kept straight, so the handicapper cannot go mad when assessing him for a mark in future. He seems to need somecut in the ground and would be of interest when things are in his favour.

Grecian Gold, put away after one promising effort last year, ran as if he really needs another furlong.

Atticus Trophies has had plenty of chances in the past but once again gave the impression he is not the easiest of conveyances.

North Fleet and Colton are now eligible for handicaps and may do a bit better in that sphere.
