RED ROCKS was as awkward round the bend as any of his rivals but sauntered away up the straight. At one stage it looked like he would win by ten lengths, but as the brakes were applied and he edged midtrack against ridden out rivals, the margin was drastically slashed.
The handicapper had already given him a rating in the 90s and he was entitled to run away from lightly raced rivals. He holds the Dante entry and may be tried at that sort of level but with American connections, he could also be heading later in the season for North America for prestigious turf races.
Duty showed the benefit of his midwinter all-weather debut to improve considerably along with the step up in trip. He beat the rest well enough despite still looking green when initially put under pressure. He threatens to stay further and should soon be winning.
Montpellier fluffed the start and was very green but he soon recovered to run a sound race. He should improve considerably for this debut.
New Guinea caught the eye of those in the pack, who were beaten a fair way. He was reported to have run too keenly early but was among the stragglers at halfway before making good late headway without having the clearest passage. A half-brother to an Italian Oaks winner, he can improve considerably on the bare form.
Plenty ruined their chances by racing too freely, none more so than Cabourg, who, fitted with blinkers for the first time, took a fierce hold, throwing his head around in trying to be restrained up the inside rail.
Kinetic Power was reported to have been hampered on the bend which cost him ground, leaving him at the back of the midfield pack but he too showed there might be better to come although he has run three times on the all-weather already.
