This seemed to be confirmed, as after a rapid pace, horses who enjoy some juice in the ground dominated.
ADANTINO would have been an unlucky loser as he had to switch widest out towards the riverside rail. He reversed recent course-and-distance form with Nautical, who ran his usual race in being badly outpaced (still last at halfway) before rattling home with the drying ground just finding him out after his win on easier ground (this was more than 1.5secs quicker than he posted when winning at the last meeting).
Resplendent Nova had one of the most inexperienced jockeys and, after leading into the final two furlongs, he could not close the deal. The impression was that under a stronger rider he can show his turf rating is still exploitable.
Annie de Burgh, initially loaded into wrong wing stall -16 instead of one - came to have every chance down the middle where the action was but still has to win at this shorter trip being a 7f winner.
Greenwood ended up almost alone under the stands' side as trailblazers there Caustic Wit and Cree weakened.\ Although he plugged on he could never get near the centrefield bunch.
Kensington did some strong late running after being outpaced into the final two furlongs without his usual headgear.
Full Spate and Cree were fresh and free to post and the latter was keen on the way back in helping set the pace with Extremely Rare and both paid for going so fast early.
first analElgin Marbles' saddle slipped.
Extremely Rare was reported to have no more to give.
Dr Synn was officially reported to have been denied a clear run.
