WAVERTREE WARRIOR proved his recent return to turf in the Spring Mile at Redcar to be all wrong, with the false start finishing plenty in that field. He looked set for a clear-cut win when pushed ahead but he was emptying quickly in the final 100 yards, making it look as if First Show was rallying. That will help his reassessment and it will not be the only time this year that his 5lb claimer will get plenty of praise for his ride, which effectively made the difference.
First Show stuck to the stands' rail while the winner challenged in a group racing more midtrack. He beat the rest well enough and retains a progressive profile on turf.
Blue Trojan was expected to just need this first run in 121 days and, as such, he loses nothing in defeat, as he just failed to sustain a threatening move midtrack inside the final furlong.
Trafalgar Square was another to run well on this seasonal comeback and for new connections, ending racing widest out and only weakening inside the final furlong.
Berkhamsted ran better than the bare form, having looked a possible winner two furlongs out before weakening very quickly in the last 150 yards.
Wujood and Giocoso paid for taking each other on in the lead, but Blue Train showed nothing for his new connections.
Glad Big was reported to be unsuited by the changed ground.
