The first six finished well clear and have plenty going for them in different ways and as the winner is pencilled in for the Dante and then the Derby, this may turn out to have been an above-average contest.
THE LAST DROP looks sure to do better on a more galloping track and was least impressive around the bends, which does not augur well for his Derby chances, but he held his line up the stands' rail and looked better the further he galloped.
Summer's Eve looks to have done well over the winter, and she raced close to the strong early pace and saw the race out well. She should soon lose her maiden tag.
Just Devine caught the eye on this belated racecourse debut against more experienced rivals. She was held up at the back but as soon as she was shown daylight in the straight she ran very green, hanging badly left. She still stayed on well, finishing widest out midtrack - which may have been no bad thing as the ground could well have been better there. If learning from the experience she should soon be winning.
Imposter clearly stepped up on his all-weather debut last October and is going the right way, and Dream Prize should leave the bare form behind. He was slowly away from his outside draw but got into contention early in the straight. He paid for those exertions but his rider allowed him to cruise the final furlong when well held.
Master Mark was reported to have run too free in the lead, while another stoutly bred newcomer, Jack Absolute, was too green through the race before staying on, albeit past tired and eased rivals.
