Marrasit had shown improved form when second in John Corbet Cup at Stratford last May and confirmed that promise with an encouraging return to action. She would have given the winner more to do had she not made a bad mistake at the last fence and should go one place better in this company in the coming weeks.
KnifeEdge is another probably not as good as he was but this trip is probably too far for him and he was never travelling after a mistake down the far side on the final circuit - he will be better judged when returned to a shorter distance.
The Butterwick Kid ran well for a long way, only tiring from the third-last fence, up against opposition probably a shade too strong, and looks to retain the ability to win the race at the May meeting here which he won in 2003 and 2005.
Mister Friday ran poorly, never jumping fluently some way out and eventually pulled up. The ground may well have been too soft for him and he bounced back from a similar effort in this contest last year to prove himself a smart hunter so he is well worth another chance.
