Analyis of the race

Very testing conditions, with the ground likened to "glue" by some jockeys.

Five previous winning hurdlers in this potentially fair juvenile event and GARDASEE confirmed himself a useful four-year-old by defying a double penalty, making all and staying on well. The sticky ground was probably not ideal for a gelding who usually jumps well - he hit the second-last flight here - and he remains open to further improvement. Though outpointed by the top juveniles at Chepstow last month he should continue to pay his way in this type of company, and he has the size to suggest he will make a fair chaser when the time comes - though he could also prove ahead of the handicapper on the Flat in the early weeks of the turf season this spring such is his recent improvement.

Eborarry had found the ground too firm on his latest start and confirmed the improvement shown previously on this more suitable surface, emerging as the only danger in the straight and not at all disgraced in defeat by a useful winner. He should win again over hurdles.

Lankawi was ridden as early as the second flight and may not have been suited by the ground but Dock Tower again showed he has the ability to win a small race.

Daldini shaped a good deal better than his finishing position better suggests, chasing the winner for much of the way only to tire in the straight. His debut second had come on much firmer going at Doncaster and he seemed not to get home in these very different conditions - he is well worth another chance when the ground dries out.

Dan's Heir probably found the ground too soft.
