KAYCEECEE, who was making his handicap debut, had a useful 10lb pull with Magnesium on their running in a Leicester novice, when he was sixth and Magnesium second and, in conditions that made it tough for top-weights, he convincingly reversed the placings with the Brendan Powell-trained gelding, in the process confirming a previous impression that he goes in the mud - though his rider Richard Johnson reckoned he could be even better on good ground.
Walsingham, a winner on fast ground last May but very disappointing since, including over fences last time, was allowed a soft lead here and handled the ground without evident problem. Tom Doyle elected to keep him on the inside from the home turn, whereas the first and third were switched to the stands side, but it made no difference to the result. This was still an encouraging return to form for the runner-up.
Miss Midnight could not sustain her challenge from three out and is another who probably wants good going, while Herecomestanley was never a factor after a mistake at the last (where his rider lost an iron) and this run is best ignored.
