Analyis of the race

A further two millimetres of rain overnight on ground that was already testing, so with the going eased to heavy on the hurdles course this morning, this always looked like being a test of stamina for this fairly inexperienced bunch. With that in mind they went a sensible pace throughout the early exchanges and despite the winner posting a time more than 23 seconds outside standard, they still finished well strung out, with the front two pulling well clear of the rest late on. PRINCIPE AZZURRO had looked to be going the right way in his recent starts and gained a well deserved win after beating all bar a subsequent easy winner last time. He is clearly suited by cut in the ground and there was a lot to like about the way he dug deep when challenged by the runner up on the run in.

Alf's Spinney led the remainder home. This was his best effort for some time and although he has run well with cut in the ground previously, he looked to run out of petrol late on after being up with the leaders three out.

Ice Meltingis coming along slowly.

Le Briar Soul may not have got the extra three furlongs in this ground.

Deep Moon was soon beaten, while Red Dawn probably needed this after more than 650 days off.
