THE WIFE'S SISTER had finished runner-up on her last two starts here in this grade, and it was no surprise to see her favourite to go one better. She led three out, travelling okay, but then looked certain to be pressed hard by Native Commander. However, she found plenty for pressure and won decisively in the end.

Whether the mare can win for a second time outside of selling class remains to be seen, though the auction was lively enough. The winning bid was 7,400gns.

The presence of NativeCommander, who has never won over hurdles, devalues the form, as the 11-year-old had not been in great order before this.

Barking Mad, winner of a Plumpton claimer by 26 lengths on his penultimate start over hurdles, disappointed for the second time since, and this drop to the minimum trip didn't promise to suit Buz Kiri, who didn't run well in any case.

Darko Karim is capable of winning in this grade, but fell at the third. Al Alba, a winner on the Flat in the French provinces, promises little over hurdles.
