Winning Irish pointer MOLOSTIEP maintained a strong gallop from the bottom of the hill to confirm he will be a major player when switching to fences next season. He had shaped well in a Cheltenham bumper last November after a couple of unlucky runs in Irish points after his maiden win. His small stable has done admirably well with similar sorts over the years and connections have a good opinion of this fine stamp of a horse.
Senor Set enjoyed the drop back in trip having failed to get three miles, and he would have been second but for running out into the plastic wing of the last when two lengths down but still harrying the winner. He had knocked the third-last flat as well which is usually a race-ending move as they are hitting the stiffest part of the hill.
As local experts suggest, the proximity of the lead out onto the course from the paddock to the last flight is encouraging mishaps on this stiff course where plenty of horses struggle up the hill. Senor Set deserves another chance to prove this wasjust a hiccup as he was still galloping unlike most of the others.
Coleraine took time to warm to his task, being untidy at his hurdles early. He improved through the race but was tired by the home bend along with the likes of Panzer, Kobai and Ridjit.
Panzer did not look happy either on the course or ground and can improve on the bare form back on a flat track. Kobai made a bad mistake for out and stumbled, paying for it later.
Wine River was reported to have bled from the nose.
