Twice a winner on heavy ground, slogging through what was now virtually a ploughed field was no problem for Ask The Umpire, but he has struggled off any higher mark and even this winning rating had looked plenty high enough.
Mayoun never gave the outside up to anyone in a bunched field but that was probably beneficial with less choppy ground. He travelled noticeably well into the home turn but once put under pressure he ran about and failed to go after the clear winner on this British debut.
Bonnell, who took the shortest but choppiest route, paid for being positive but still held a distant fourth.
Soleil d'Hiver was still travelling well enough and close to the pace when stumbling on landing over the third-last and taking a heavy fall. She had won on heavy ground herself and was running a much better race than of late on quicker going.
