The going was officially described as ‘firm' and some jockeys felt that ‘very' should be added to that description. Having won over the stiff five at Pontefract, ELOQUENT ROSE was sharp enough for this much quicker track and she showed plenty of courage into the bargain to just prevail in what was probably a fairly decent affair.

Her connections had intended to give her a longer break after that first race but she came out of it better than they had expected. She may have a bit longer this time, and the type who will be effective over six furlongs she is likely to have a crack at a better race at some stage.

There seemed to be a measure of confidence about the chance of We'll Confer. He looked to be running a bit green at halfway but then picked up to mount a serious challenge only to edge left and that may have cost him the spoils. He will be better for the experience and it won't be long before he goes one better.

Stolt was a winner first time out and ran another fine race conceding upwards of 7lb all round. This track and the very fast ground may not have been completely ideal for him either.

Bollin Franny was run out of the money in the end, but he showed good speed and it was an encouraging debut.

Danum Dancer never looked like getting in a serious blow, but it was not a bad first effort from a cheap buy.
