Not a particularly significant bumper, at first glance, and it was won by a mare who started at 100-1 on her debut three and a half weeks earlier. RHACOPHORUS, the horse in question, had finished a fair sixth of 17 at Wincanton, and would have been a shorter price to do better than that had she been with a higher-profile trainer. As it is, only Karello Bay threatened to stop her, and the experience of that previous run stood Rhacophorus in good stead. She was always pretty handy and outfought the runner-up on the run-in.

Delena looked one of the more likely debutante winners, along with Ebony Queen, Karello Bay and Nefertari (who as a four-year-old was receiving 11lb from the other three), and it was Karello Bay who fared much the best. She finished clear of the third, Marigolds Way, who was also making her debut, and can go one better soon.
