OPERA DE COEUR overcame the rapidly drying ground, which jockeys described as verging on good on a bitterly cold day. He had to work hard to overcome his double penalty as newcomer Orpen Wide moved up menacingly around the home bend. Connections are looking to Aintree, where he will go two and a half on good ground, but will not bother at all if it is firmer. He remains an unexposed young horse who has the right attributes of being game and having stamina.
Orpen Wide moved up strongly three out and while there were stamina issues for this winning miler on the Flat, he hounded the winnerall the way up the straight to finish well clear of the rest.
That the free-running Paddy's Tern clung on to fifth says it all about the rest.
