DON CASTILLE, despite being one of the most experienced, was nearly undone by both the pace and still being green under pressure. He was stuck in the middle of the packing field until the straight and had to angle out midtrack to get a run before bearing down too strongly on the front-runners. The step up in trip obviously suited and he will probably need a test when going over hurdles.
Le Burf confirmed the promise of his debut effort after a slipping saddle last time ended his chances. He hung left away from his rider's whip when looking a possible winner and collided with Tisfreetdream which did neither of them any good. He is another strong type who should continue to progress when put over hurdles and fences.
Tisfreetdream was still battling away but looking like being beaten around a length when having to be reined in due to the antics of the runner-up. As he had shown little at big odds in his first two efforts, it adds weight to the form being moderate.
Fredensborg travelled well, but hemmed in against the inside rail down the back straight, did not have the pace to extricate himself in the packing field up the straight under strong pressure and can do better when stamina is more of an issue.
Similar remarks apply to both Hot Zone and Ebony Queen, who raced towards the back of the pack but stayed on steadily without threatening to land a telling blow.
Cooldine Boy, another big chasing type, kept galloping away but was outspeeded up the straight.
