ISOTOP belatedly registered his first success of any description at the 18th time of asking under a fine ride by his in-form jockey, despite racing from 1lb out of the handicap. The drop back to this trip clearly suited, he was full value for his winning margin, and could build on this now his confidence will have been boosted.
Papillon de Iena, raised 9lb for winning at Exeter last time, held every chance under a patient ride yet did not see out this longer trip. He should prove happier when reverting to shorter, but may just be in the Handicapper's grip now.
Pipsallio, making his chasingand handicap debut in this sphere, was careful at his fences early on, and looked like pulling up at one stage turning onto the second circuit, but he got the hang of things with four to jump and eventually finished his race with purpose. He should learnplenty from the experience and, given that he stayed two miles plus on the Flat, really should be seen in a better light when ridden more prominently over this sort of distance.
Mokum, up 8lb for finishing second at Towcester last time, failed to raise his game for this return to a longer trip.
Recent Worcester winner Sir Brastias was none toofluent through the early parts and it was not a surprise that he eventually unshipped his rider.
