Recent course-and-distance winner PINCHBECK looked to have it all to do at the top of the straight, but is ingreat form at the moment and responded well to pressure to get up close home and defy a 6lb higher mark. This is the highest mark he has ever won off, so things are obviously going to be tougher next time, but he must be respected when he goes for the hat-trick.
Majik, who, from 4lb out of the handicap, was still 2lb lower than when winning this race last year, responded well to pressure having looked to be struggling at halfway and can have few excuses. This was a very pleasing run and he could well find a similar race in the coming weeks.
Poker Player, who was last seen getting off the mark in a turf maiden for Brian Meehan, had the blinkers left off for his Fibresand debut and probably did well to finish so close having missed the break, although the strong pace obviously played a part.
Waterside, dropping back in trip from a mile, fared best ofthose to race up with the pace and continues in good form.
Kingsmaite did not run badly considering the bias towards those who raced off the pace in the first half of the race, while recent course-and-distance maiden winner Aegean Dancer basically did too much too early.
