Analyis of the race

As is usually the case with sprint handicaps, a very competitive contest. There has been a significant advantage to low-drawn runners over this course and distance in recent months, but while that was not quite the case this time, it still seems as though those drawn very high are at a disadvantage.

THE LORD had never previously won on the all-weather, but had run creditably to be third over course and distance two starts previously and appreciated the return to Fibresand, having been down the field on Polytrack last time. Always going well, he looked to out-battle Desperate Dan and had very much got first run on the eventual runner-up.

He had fallen to a very fair mark, and could still be reasonably handicapped on some of his form when reassessed, but his recent wins-to-runs record suggests it would be unwise to take too short a price.

After The Show continued his progression with a good effort in second, and he can be considered a little unlucky as he had to switch around runners for a clear run, by which time the eventual winner was clear. Effective on both Fibresand and Polytrack, he appeals very much as a sprinter to follow.

Willhewiz, who won his maiden in 2002 on his only previous run over this course and distance, had by no means a bad draw in stall one and ran his race.

Gilded Cove ran a creditable race but looks weighted up to his very best.

Magic Glade could not sustain his effort having travelled well, but would not have been helped by his double-figure stall.

On the face of it, Harry Up was disappointing given he was just 4lb higher than when winning over six furlongs at Wolverhampton on his previous start, but this represented a different test altogether and he had it all to do from the rails draw.
