A weak handicap hurdle in which few were guaranteed to relish the conditions. The pace wasn't strong and they finished on top of one another, with four still in with a chance at the last and all six covered by less than nine lengths at the finish. The form is unlikely to amount to a great deal.

DANSE MACABRE ended a long losing run and recorded his first success since arriving from Ireland, driven to the front between the last two but then only just holding on. He had reportedly been out of sorts on his latest start but had run well before.

Visibility has been out of form lately over longer distances with an amateur rider on board. On ground he clearly enjoyed as a juvenile and off a very lenient handicap mark, he attracted good support, and he might have justified it except for putting his head in the air under pressure and losing his place going to two out. Only fourth when blundering at the last, he then consented to put his best foot forward and almost got up.

Xamborough is another whose best form has been on better ground, and he wasn't disgraced in the circumstances. Huckster, a former South African horse, will never have encountered ground or cold like this. He can do better. Hegarty, however, still has a question mark over him and found little after being dropped out in rear.
