TARLAC won a Group 3 in Germany and was potentially very leniently treated here off 115, the mark given him after a Folkestone win on his second start over hurdles. However, he didn't jump particularly well out of the testing ground, and having moved up smoothly to challenge Lunar Crystal by the hedge on the stands' side in the straight he couldn't get away from him when shaken up. Although he always looked like holding on, he was pretty much all out up the run-in. Nicky Henderson thought this probably wasn't thewinner's ground, but he more or less ruled out anything fancy for the remainder of the season. He sees Tarlac as a nice chaser for next term.
Lord Henry looked potentially well handicapped, despite top weight, but he had been off the track more than 15 months and it was no surprise to see him tire in the straight and only just hold on to third ahead of Enhancer, for whom the ground was surely too soft.
Guru was soon in trouble after a mistake three out . Aldiruos didn't run much ofa race either.
