There was a good word before racing for CAPISTRANO and the horse's starting price reflected that. He did not let his supporters down either, for after travelling kindly for his rider, he got the better of a tussle with Fann before winning a shade cosily.
He could well be a step ahead of the handicapper with a bit more to give, especially with a little more cut in the ground.
Fann ran a big race in a hotly contested three-year-old handicap at Kempton on her previous outing, and she confirmed the promise shown there with this personal-best effort. The impression given was that this is as far as she wants to go, but on this showing she should break her duck before long.
More interesting for the future is Princess Cocoa, who was badly hampered over a furlong out but still plugged on for fourth. This was her first run in a handicap, and also her first run beyond seven furlongs, and she has more to give.
Ellesappelle was staying on quite nicely down the outside, while of the rest, Farne Island ran a promising race and might be worth keeping an eye on.
