WHITE ON BLACK was a winner on the Flat in Belgium and Germany and stepped up on his Folkestone hurdling debut by beating hotpot Liathroidisneachta after being kept wide in search of the best ground. He was helped however by the favourite's apparent reluctance under pressure, for having taken it up on landing over the fourth last Liathroidisneachta wandered under pressure between the last two flights and then hung again on the run-in. He does not look one to take short odds about again.
The first four were a long way clear of the favourite's stable-mate Akram, who has yet to show more than a glimpse of his Flat form over hurdles but gained both his wins in Ireland on fast ground and may click one day in a modest handicap.
Robert Liucey-Butler reported that On The Fairway hung badly right.
