This was a weak novice hurdle, run at a steady pace for more than a circuit after nothing had wanted to go on to begin with, yet it was improved form from BRING ME SUNSHINE, although he had shown ability in bumpers and on his only previous hurdles start. Quite keen, covered up, he then got a bit outpaced when they quickened up down the far side. But he improved to be one of three in a line at the second last, when Quartier Latin blundered badly, and he stayed on for a clear-cut success. A half-brother to Racing Post Chase winner Super Tactics, he is unlikely to be seen much more before he goes over fences.
Palm Island, arguably the pick on form, was also held up and also got outpaced when they quickened. This was his fourth placing from four starts and he has obvious limitations.
Just A Splash had a penalty for his course and distance win. This was his first run on ground this soft, and it was a moderate one.
The German Listed-class Flat winner Quartier Latin looked the winner when quickening to the front down the far side and going two or three lengths clear, but he was already in trouble when he barely picked his feet up at the second last and left his back legs behind on landing. It looked for a moment as if he would be pulled up, and with hindsight perhaps he should have been.
