Analyis of the race

This looked a reasonable juvenile by Plumpton standards and three of the first four were previous winners. PACE SHOT was among the best of them on the Flat and confirmed himself a progressive sort by travelling well and winning decisively. He pulled clear with Caribou down the far side and was in charge once he took his rival's measure on the home turn. Trainer Gary Moore reckons the winner is growing up at last and said it may have helped to race him locally, as he didn't sweat up for once.

Slew Charm had some Flat form in France and made a promising hurdles debut, keeping on well over the last two flights after racing a bit keen under restraint in the early stages. Trainer Noel Chance was delighted with him, and he looks sure to improve.

Caribou's Leicester form did not amount to a great deal and having helped force the pace he was put in his place on the turn. In fairness, the track would not have been ideal, as he is a big, chasing type who never ran on the Flat.

The first four finished clear of the winner's stablemate Sole Agent and the hard-pulling Dance Hall Diva. However, Willy The Slip would have beena good bit closer except for a blunder three out when disputing third.
