A fair mares' novice hurdle in which TROMPETTE came out best, enhancing her trainer's fine record with hurdlers at this venue. She was probably just showing signs of inexperience when veering left and jumping the final flight slowly as she found extra when tackled by Blaeberry on the run-in, and there should be better to come.

Blaeberry had shown enough on her previous starts to warrant plenty of respect in this company, but the easier ground would not have been in her favour and it is to her credit that she fought back on the run-in. This keen-going sort is worth another try on a decent surface around a sharp track.

Methodical, one of the most experienced hurdlers in the line-up, confirmed her improvement since winning a seller at Taunton last month with a solid effort in third. Two and a half miles should suit her better.
