Analyis of the race

A less competitive fillies’ event than the size of the field might suggest, and complicated further by the field splitting into two groups – the six who raced on the far side appeared to have a distinct advantage the way this race panned out as they were all among the first eight home overall.

DANIELLA benefited from being in a small group as she is best when dominating from the front and was able to make all the running on the far side, scoring an ultimately authoritative success. She has invariably needed a run in the past and may well come on a bit for this reappearance so is one to keep in mind next if likely to get her own way in front.

Riquewhir – sixth in this race last year – ran well from what turned out to be a favourable draw, always prominent, and atoning for an unlucky effort on her return to turf, while the firmer ground seemed to suit Tagula Bay, who showed more than on her reappearance, is potentially well handicapped but had the draws in her favour here and has had plenty of chances in the past.

Cerulean Rose and Desertina ran respectably from their favourable draws but of more interest may be African Gift, who was second home on the stands’ side, weakening only in the final furlong. She has clearly come on for a couple of outings on the all-weather, has slipped to a decent mark in the handicapper and is one to bear in mind when the draw is more in herfavour.
