Analyis of the race

A poor handicap even by 46-60 standards, with very few of the field in much form, and again the draw proved crucial, with the ten who raced on the far side providing seven of the first eight home. But though Drumming Party had the advantage of the draw, he was on the ‘wrong’ side of the main group as he is missing his near-eye so could not see them. This was an improved effort but the straight track is much more suitable for a horse with his disability than the right-hand bend of Lingfield, where he had disappointed on his previous start. Unfortunately, he hung into the runner-up in the closing stages here and was demoted.

LADY ALGARHOUD lost slight momentum when hampered by the first past the post – though she herself went right into him – and was awarded the race. She had dropped back to a winning mark after a modest spell and, whatever the merits of the stewards’ decision, she has clearly rediscovered a bit of form.

Cashel Mead ran a blinder as she was the first home on the stands’ side and clearly remains in fine form. She is well worth considering if she gets a better draw next time.

Of the rest, Namir was not disgraced after a slow start, while Monte Major was hampered at the start and again when staying on inside the final furlong and is worth another chance.

Pyramid and Mynd were not disgraced on the wrong side of the course.
