The supposed "talking horses" meant many were distracted from the proven course form of Kyoto Summit, who was the best horse on show tonight with a BHB rating of 86, and he was ultimately allowed to go off at much bigger odds than he was entitled to have.
Bred to improve as a three-year-old and appreciate this longer trip, he tracked Kerriemuir Lass before sweeping by that rival as he took over inside the two-furlong marker and powered clear to put daylight between himself and the runner up. He's clearly come to hand early enough but on this evidence he could have a nice future although it's difficult to truly assess the value of the form until we see what those in behind go on to achieve in the near future.
Kerriemuir Lass had been all the rage in the morning and had been back as if defeat was out of the question. She was clearly much better than she was able to show on her sole start to date, and she looked plenty fit enough beforehand, but she was simply put in her place by a more progressive rival and may not be much better than this. On this evidence though, connections should have no trouble finding compensation.
Bamboo Banks plugged on despite being niggled some way out but this was a step forward on his poor debut effort. He looks to lack a change of gear and may need an even stiffer test.
Alasoun was ultimately disappointing. He stood out in the paddock, having clearly done plenty of work, although he did look rather dosile and laid back. In rear early, he made steady headway but could never land a blow on the principles and will need to step up significantly on this if he is to justify his big race entries.
Michael Tebbutt reported that Darker Than Blue hung to the right.
