Trainer Eric Alston said: "He has so much speed and Kevin said if I kept running him over six it might blunt that so we will stay at five. He doesn't need soft ground - he will be quicker still on faster ground."
Bahamian Pirate nearly repeated his win of two years ago in this contest. He remains winless since his Nunthorpe success nearly two years ago but has run some good races in between when getting his preferred softer ground. He still remains on a high enough mark and this good run will do his cause no good, leaving him hard to place to advantage but even at 11 he still retains his zest.
If Paradise raced one off the stands side and again showed good all-round pace but The Lord gave them a start and raced through down the middle in the wake of trailblazer Cape Royal so did well to finish so close. He is suited to a sharp five and usually likes to lead so this performance suggests he can be placed to advantage.
Cape Royal remains winless in nearly two years but gets no relief from the handicapper.
Magic Glade was reported to have bled from the nose.
