Aeroplane's success gave a boost to the chance of LEVERA, who had beaten him decisively over 6f at Leicester last year and so looked attractively treated here on 82. Looking really well and carrying a degree of confidence, he broke well from his stall just one off the rail and dominated his group throughout. He was clear 2f out and showed no sign of stopping.
Obe Brave had won at York on his only start at two and the Handicapper had given him a chance. He and the well-touted Haydock winner Giganticus had the finish to themselves on the stands' side, and both look certain to win in similar company before too long.
Dame Hester had made a winning start for her new trainer on the AW at Lingfield, but had been off 66 days since. She made a creditable handicap debut, keeping on up the outside of the far group for a respectable fourth.
The Snatcher chased the winner up the far side, but then hung left under pressure and joined Obe Brave and Giganticus in the other group. He proved a bargain buy at two, but didn't take the eye here on his reappearance and might not be easy to place now.
Glenmuir ran all right, but he looked one of the fitter members of the field and might not improve as much as some.
Regal Royale, gelded since disappointing in the Acomb Stakes, had a stiff enough task under top-weight based on his Newbury maiden win in a race that didn't work out too well, but was still a bit disappointing.[GD]
