MISU BOND did not have the ideal run-up as he lost two shoes, one in the prelims and more importantly at the start which saw him still being reshoed as the others were being put in the stalls. He was last in after being walked across and loaded straight away, so deserves plenty of credit for his strong performance.
He looked set for an impressive win going to the final furlong but Jeremy finished with a flourish after having to wait for a run through against the inside rail. Misu Bond looked to find a bit more when Jeremy threatened and both should find Group wins this season.
Winning connections reported rather like Speciosa in the Nell Gwyn the previous day that there was a bit left to work on but, while Misu Bond has a progressive profile with back-to-back Listed wins, he has much more to find than the filly for her Group 1 and bookmaker reaction, 50-1 from Stan James and 40-1 from Skybet, was a reasonable reaction.
Advanced was the other runner to emerge with plenty of credit, refinding his sound-surface form. He too was fresh off the steady early pace but then had to sit and suffer behind the frontrunners for a furlong before getting room inside the final two furlongs. He took time to find his stride but was bearing down strongly at the finish.
Johannes was again boisterous to post and he was left behind by the principals but plugged on for fourth past the weakening Manston, who was the disappointment of the race on the evidence of the formbook. He weakened as if the race was needed and can improve on the bare form with the race under his belt.
Baan was disappointing, dropping away before the principals quickened away. Both BA Foxtrot and Strike Up The Band weakened badly and it will be no surprise if both revert to sprinting but these black type juveniles struggle to compete in that division at three with their high ratings. (BJ)
