MIKAO won at up to 2m last year, but he coped with the significant drop in trip under a fairly positive ride. Connections are eyeing a crack at the Chester Cup now, and if last year's race is a guide he should just about scrape in.
Nawamees represented a stable that is in blinding form at the moment, and his determined challenge on the outside only just failed. He hasn't won on the Flat yet in Britain, but couldn't have gone much closer.
The first two were clear of Wingman, who looked in the grip of the Handicapper all last year, but was running on here and shaped quite well, and Ebtikaar, who was an eye-catcher in fourth.
Bulwark carried his head high and hung left and right, but wasn't disgraced by any means. He has yet to win for anybody but Kerrin McEvoy, whose record on him is fourfrom four, and he will merit respect when the partnership is resumed.
Lets Roll made a satisfactory reappearance in sixth, and the race-fit Danehill Willy was running on well enough up the far rail in seventh to suggest he stayed.[GD]
