A race lacking strength in depth provided hot favourite ETCHED IN STONE with an all-the-way success. Setting a decent gallop throughout, the winner showed a tendency to jump away to his right a couple of times along the back straight and, briefly, it looked as though he might be facing problems approaching the third-last. But the further he went, the more he dug deep as you would expect from a son of Roselier. A headstrong sort, he will stay further and looks to be going the right way.

Boulders Beach, who was making his hurdling debut after two unplaced efforts in bumpers, shaped well in second and will surely benefit from this experience.

Lethem Air, a former point-to-pointer, showed his first glimmer of ability under Rules.

Cloudmor was not disgraced in fifth, one place ahead of his stablemate Baffling Secret.
