WELLBEING, a late-starter over hurdles, was fifth to Sinndar in the 2000 Derby and won twice at Group 3 level. His last BHB rating was 117, yet he got into this novice handicap hurdle on a mark that would equate to a Flat rating somewhere in the 60s. Jack The Giant, on the other hand, was rated only 72 on the Flat after winning a modest maiden at Epsom. Hurdles, however, bought the par very close together, and it was only on the run-in that the patiently handled Wellbeing edged ahead of Jack The Giant for a narrow success.
The runner-up had been keen early on, and after Mick Fitzgerald sent him on starting down the far side he led until the run-in, but he hung left after the second last, and then right on the run-in under a left-had drive. He has further improvement in him, but he doesn't look the most straightforward.
Sabreur, up there from the start, ran better and seems best on a soundish surface. Quarrymount was on the retreat when he made a mistake two out.
*Paddy Brennan reported that Arry Dash lost his action.
*Tom Scudamore reported that Master Mahogany lost his action.
*Paul Moloney reported that Shannon Springs lost his action.
