This was a return to form from VON ORIGNY, who had lost his place and had only two behind him at the end of the back straight. He was still in a poor position straightening for home, and a mistake three out didn't help, but he then made relentless progress as those more ridden more prominently began to tire. He had closed to within three lengths or so of long-time clear leader Shining Strand and looked a massive danger when the top-weight made a tired mistake at the last, and he was soon on top on the run-in. Although he has won on testing ground, Henry Daly reckons this better surface suited him.
Shining Strand behaved himself this time, although his jockey was taking no chances as they passed the paddock exit . He was still clear, going well, starting up the straight, but the pace he had set started to take its toll after the second last.
Conditions were different for last week's Towcester winner The Outlier, and he never got in a blow.
*Wayne Hutchinsonreported Simple Glory moved poorly throughout.
