Saif Sareea, seeking a course and distance hat-trick and up another 8lb here, was noted travelling strongly turning in and was simply beaten by a better horse on the day.
Rising Generation, who has also been rising in the weights, helped force the pace and did well to hold on to third place on ground faster than ideal.
High Day has form on good ground on the Flat and this wasn't a bad effort on his handicap hurdle debut in such a hot event.
Motive was dropped out, as he was when winning at Catterick, but failed to make any headway on the principals from two out.
Border Tale hasn't been in the best of fettle but this was a decent effort in such an open race, while Liberty Seeker has good form over hurdles and fences, and wasn't disgraced in this first outing after a lengthy absence.
