Only three could be seriously fancied for this long distance novices hurdle on previous showings. PIRAN showed no ill effects from a heavy last hurdle fall here last time, as he showed better speed than the runner-up to score. Despite him handling quick conditions well, connections are considering overlooking a summer campaign and giving him a break before bringing him back over fences in the Autumn.
Waterloo Son was stepping up in distance, but seemed to see it out well enough. However, he faced a tough task from a handicap point of view, as he is rated inferior to the winner, and the ground was probably as quick as he wants. He looks a tailormade chaser for next term.
Darn Good ran as if there is a modest contest in him at some stage.
Cloneybrien Boy, reverting to hurdles after not taking to fences, ran as well as could be expected.
