Analyis of the race

A competitive handicap on paper but SHE'S OUR NATIVE, 5lb well in under her 7lb penalty, ended up winning easily. The fact that the ground appeared to be riding easier than the official description suited her and, although she jumped out to her rightat the three flights in the straight, it made no difference as she was going strongly at the time. Another quick reappearance looks on the cards.

Amanpuri, Miss Shakira and Astyanax took each other on at the head of affairs and set a decent gallop. This track favours speedy types, though, and two of them hung on to fill the places. Miss Shakira, last seen winning a couple of novice chases in the autumn, looked on a fair mark for her return to hurdling, but to get this trip properly she probably needs a sound surface. Although last to capitulate to the winner, she weakened in the straight and had to give up second place to fellow pacesetter Amanpuri, who is an inconsistent type and still a maiden over timber.

Pearly Star might do better over a shorter trip, while Barathea Blue hinted at a little ability and might be seen to better effect on faster ground.
