Gibraltar Bay, looking to give the stable a quick-fire double, lost out by the narrowest of margins after making just about all of the running. She is less exposed than most in the race and, despite appearing to stay a mile and a half well, a drop back by a furlong or two would seem ideal.
Champagne Shadow had shown temperament in the past, refusing to race on one occasion. However, his attitude could not be called into question on this effort as he stayed on strongly for pressure, having been slightly hampered by the winner with a furlong to go.
The ultra-consistent Heathyards Pride was most unlucky, but most of it was of his own making. He travelled well during the race but had to sit and suffer at the rear of the field as they came into the final bend. Finding trouble as they straightened out for the line, he fairly flew home when the gaps finally appeared and was catching the leaders quickly at the end.
Eastborough came very wide off the final turn and finished well despite never looking likely to win, while Burgundy ran his usual race from behind, coming with a late effort.
Pass The Port was close up in the early stagesbut failed to see out the trip as well as others in the race. His best form is at the other two all-weather tracks.
