Even when the race had five declared runners, it was a disappointing turnout for the prize-money on offer, but it was then further weakened by the overnight withdrawals of Moi Aussi and Abstract Art. The rest of the field had all met each other recently and, as expected, it turned into a sprint down the home straight. The time for the race was very slow.

Fusili made the running early but at a very slow pace. Halfway down the back straight, the jockey on Time For Life decided he wanted to go a bit faster and make it more of a test, but, in truth, the race did not really come to life until they were inside the four-furlong marker.

BEFORE YOU GO picked up fairly well for a horse with his breeding and steadily went clear of his rivals the further he went. Little should be read into his Derby entry except that the stable clearly hold him in high regard, and he has the scope to continue improving. He should make up into a nice handicapper if he does not manage to make the leap in grade.

Fusili beat Before You Go last time over the course and distance and gave her all in behind. She is making up into a solid performer and will no doubt win more races.
